ST. LUCIE COUNTY — It was a popular drug 50 years ago, and it seems law enforcement officers are encountering people using LSD more and more lately.
“I think we’re seeing a lot of the drugs from the ’60s and ’70s coming back, and LSD being one of them,” sheriff’s Lt. Frank Pellegrini said Thursday. “The last couple of search warrants we did, we have found tabs of acid.”
Two people were arrested after St. Lucie County sheriff’s officials searched an apartment and reported finding more than three dozen squares of LSD and other drugs, according to affidavits.
Leah Davis, 19, and Norman Feller, 20, were arrested Tuesday after investigators searched an apartment in the 5500 block of Northwest East Torino Parkway.

Sheriff’s officials said they found items including 38 squares of LSD, eight bottles of THC wax, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of ганжа. THC wax is a ганжа concentrate that is highly potent.
LSD, a hallucinogen, is a liquid typically put on paper and divided into small squares. Each square is a dose and is ingested orally. LSD, also known as acid, was popularized in the 1960s.

Davis told investigators she is the leaseholder and her boyfriend, Feller, had been staying with her. She said when investigators knocked she was walking across the common area with a jar of ганжа.
Feller denied owning any of the items.

The recent LSD bust comes about two months after Derek Richard Tomie, 24, was arrested as sheriff’s officials reported finding hundreds of “hits” of LSD and other drugs at his home in the 10700 block of South Ocean Drive, an affidavit said.
In that case, investigators reported finding 472 paper “hits” of LSD, about a half ounce of crystal methamphetamine, about 4 ounces of ганжа and three pills of MDMA, referred to as Ecstasy.

Pellegrini said LSD can be particularly dangerous.
“I remember growing up (in the early 1970s) in Brooklyn, New York, I watched somebody jump off a six story building high on LSD,” he said.
Who knows what is being mixed in with drugs now, he said.
“We’ve been finding pills that look like Xanax and they’re pressed with fentanyl,» Pellegrini said. «It’s all kinds of different variations of drugs.»

Xanax is used in treating anxiety and panic disorders, while fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid used for pain relief. Fentanyl is about 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than Гер, according to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Davis, of the 1000 block of Southwest College Park Road in Port St. Lucie, was arrested on charges including possession of not more than 20 grams of ганжа, possession of more than 20 grams of ганжа, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.
Feller, of the 5500 block of Northwest East Torino Parkway in Port St. Lucie, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Davis was held Thursday in the St. Lucie County Jail on no bail, while Feller was held on $15,000 bail, a jail official said.
