, Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam have all been making rootsy music for decades. But they have never before teamed up for a tour together.
Enter ”LSD,” as the three are slyly billing their 2018 summer tour — with the added tag line: “It’s worth the trip.”
Between them, Williams, Earle and Yoakam have earned a combined 49 Grammy Award nominations and 10 Grammy wins.
Each specializes in performing unadulterated songs that draw, in varying degrees, from country, rock and an array of Americana styles in between.
And each has at least one classic album to their credit — Williams’ “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road,” Yoakam’s “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” and Earle’s “Copperhead Road.”
The opening act for their tour — which stops in San Diego Friday — is Omaha native King Leg (real name: Bryan Joyce), whose recent EP, “Meet King Leg,” was co-produced by Yoakam.
Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakam, with King Leg: 7 p.m. Friday. Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, San Diego State University, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego. $29.50-$189.50 , plus service charges. (800) 745-3000.
